About Tabledown
Tabledown is a minimalistic VTT (Virtual TableTop) that uses Markdown to edit the shared sheets.
I'll Make sure and say this upfront: This is not a VTT for everyone!
My main goal in creating this platform was to satify myself, as I had tested dozens of VTTs and none of them were quite what I wanted, usually resorting to me playing through Discord only or using shared Google Sheets, which is a great way to play, but I kinda wanted something more organized and targeted towards TTRPGs so I made this.
As you can infer from my previous paragraph, I'm mostly a theater of the mind kind of person, so this VTT doesn't include fancy grid systems for tactical gameplay, it does have a simple map grid system with tokens and fog of war but that's it. I might make these tools more reliable in the future but they are certainly not the focus here.
The main goal here is to be quick to pick up and learn, easy to create your own custom sheets (it's basically just a Markdown sheet) and quick to set up a room and play, since we don't require any registration from neither the Game Master nor the players.
Tabledown Features
Down below we have some details and features about Tabledown:
- Markdown! We use Markdown almost everywhere you can type something, like anywhere on the sheets and in the general chat, the sheets have Markdown editors built into them, but if you want to learn more about Markdown take a look: Learn Markdown;
- Highly Customizable! You can search through premade character sheets, you can create your own custom sheet or even use a premade one and modify it to suit your specific needs, and don't worry, you can add different types of sheet to a room and even modify details only for the player using one specific sheet. You can give multiple sheets to the same player or the same sheet to multiple players. You can also make some sheets public to be seen by everyone but not edited by them;
- Dice Rolling! You can add as many dice as you need to a pool and roll them all together, having their results summed up altogether or using each individual dice result showing up in the order they were added to the pool;
- Quick to Setup! Just create a room and send the link to your friends and you are ready to play. Of course, you can always do some preparation in the room beforehand, but if the sheet you need is on one of our premade ones list then you can just use it and play;
- It's 100% mobile friendly. It was designed to be used on a mobile first, so you should be able to use just your phone to play and even use it in in-person games. Also, this webapp is a PWA, which means you can download it onto your phone (open this app on your phone, go to the browser's settings and click the "Install"/"Add To Home Screen" button), which should allow you to store your user data on your phone as well as have a much better response time from the application once installed;
- Simple Grid System: For basic tactical combats, you can create maps, define their sizes, add tokens and even control the fog of war. Although very simple, it can still handle many use cases;
- Customize Room Style: The room owner can change any color in the application as well as the text fonts used and everyone in the room will pick up the same styles set. This way you can make the room fit the style of the game you're running;
- Rooms are temporary. Every day at midnight, a script runs and deletes every room that hasn't received any interaction in the past 24 hours, so you can keep using the same room if you add anything to the chat, for example, or simply edit a sheet, but the best way is to go to the Room's settings and export the room as a file that you can later on import again into a new room and continue your game where you left of;
- We collect absolutely no data from you. Everything used by the users is stored in the users' browsers and only used during the game. The more specific things from the users, like their sheets, are stored in the rooms, which is temporary, so at the end of the day, we collect no data from you.
